Occasionally, customers may notice that when they add a group or team photo to their cart, an individual image preview appears instead. While this can seem confusing, the final product ordered and printed will still be the correct group photo.
This article explains why this happens and how OPS handles group image ordering.
Why does an individual image appear in the cart?
OPS is designed around each subject’s individual image record.
Group photos are attached to the individual subjects within their assigned group or team. Because of this structure:
- Every group photo must be linked to an individually photographed subject.
- The shopping cart preview is tied to the individual’s image profile.
- Even when ordering a team or group image, the cart may temporarily display the individual image associated with that subject.
This is only a display issue within the ordering interface.
What will actually print?
The order will print correctly as the selected group product, such as:
- Team Photo
- Group Photo
- Group Package
- Team Package
The cart preview does not affect the final printed product.
Why is OPS designed this way?
This system ensures:
- Group photos can be associated with specific teams, classes, or groups.
- Orders remain connected to the correct subject data.
- Group images can be purchased through individual galleries.
Because group photos rely on individual subject records, every member of a team or group should ideally be photographed individually.
Common scenario: dance schools and multi-group organizations
This issue most commonly occurs with:
- Dance schools
- Cheer organizations
- Multi-team sports programs
- Groups with multiple outfit changes
For example, a child may participate in several groups but only be photographed individually for a few outfits. If no individual image exists for a specific group, there may not be a way for that customer to purchase that specific group photo through OPS.
How OPS helps reduce confusion
To help clarify the ordering process, OPS includes messaging throughout checkout.
In the Shopping Cart
Customers will see text indicating that a Group Photo, Team Photo, Group Package, or Team Package is being purchased.
During Checkout
Additional confirmation messaging appears again before the order is submitted.
Important notes for customers
- The cart preview image may show the individual subject.
- The final order will still print as the selected group or team image.
- This is a known display behavior and does not affect production accuracy.
Future improvements
We understand this can occasionally cause confusion for parents and customers. Improvements to the ordering experience are being evaluated to make group-photo purchases more visually clear throughout the shopping process.
